Major hint Man Utd swap deal is almost done, Arsenal switch imminent

Reports continue to speculate on the possible deal between Man Utd and Arsenal involving a swap between Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

As per BBC Sport, Jose Mourinho conceded on Friday that talks were ongoing and that he was awaiting news on Sanchez’s arrival at Old Trafford, while it’s intimated in the report that Mkhitaryan is holding the deal up.

Arsenal are looking to take action this month ahead of the Chilean international becoming a free agent this summer, at which point they would lose him for nothing.

As a result, moving now to get a good deal for themselves is the right strategy, and according to The Daily Mail, Mkhitaryan may well have already dropped the biggest hint yet that he’s preparing for a new challenge in north London.

It’s claimed that the United ace ‘bid a tearful farewell’ to his teammates at training on Friday, with a United source adding more substance to the suggestion.

“It was very tearful. Henrikh has been a very popular figure here at United.

“We know he isn’t too happy at the way this deal has been forced upon him. He realises he has more chance of playing at Arsenal, but he would have preferred to leave on his own terms.”

It unfortunately hasn’t been working out for Mkhitaryan at United, as the 28-year-old has managed just two goals and six assists in 22 appearances so far this season.

While there have certainly been glimpses of his class and quality, it hasn’t been consistent enough which has led to him being in and out of the team.

If he has indeed said his goodbyes to his United teammates, that’s a significant indication that the deal is edging closer to completion, and what a deal it could turn out to be for Arsenal if they can help him rediscover the form he showed in his final season at Dortmund.

The playmaker had 23 goals and a staggering 32 assists in the 2015/16 campaign, and having worked so effectively with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at that time, reports that the Gabon international could be joining him at the Emirates, as per the Metro, will be music to the ears of the pair and Arsenal fans as they could be set for a reunion.
