Manchester United have been dealt the blow of Sergi Roberto signing a new contract with Barcelona after reports earlier today linked him with a move to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old has penned a new long-term deal at the Nou Camp, with the club confirming he has a bumper new release clause of an eye-watering £440million.
That is surely too much for United to cough up for a player hardly in the ‘world class’ category, even if he could have been a useful addition to Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Roberto has shone for Barcelona in a number of midfield and defensive roles, and Don Balon reported that he was considering his future at the club.
United may have been able to tempt him with more first-team football, but it is now confirmed that they’ve missed out on him for the time being with this big development today.
Roberto came through the ranks at Barca and clearly seems committed to remaining with his current club for the long term.
