Manchester United fans have been bombarding their former player Michael Owen with tweets containing the hash tag #RemoveTheCurse.

Yes, it seems Red Devils supporters are truly being driven a bit mad by the whole Alexis Sanchez transfer saga, despite the Daily Mirror reporting today that the Arsenal forward is set to have his medical as the move draws nearer.

Marca have also claimed Sanchez is set to take the no.7 shirt at United – worn by legends such as George Best, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, it was also infamously donned by flop signing Owen, who spent three years at Old Trafford at the tail-end of his career.

As explained below in the video by popular Man Utd fan account Full Time Devils, some supporters clearly believe Owen has cursed the number at United, with the players to wear it since all proving disappointing, such as Memphis Depay.

That needn’t be a worry with Sanchez, who also wore 7 at Arsenal, but it looks like fans are holding Owen responsible and are hoping he’ll help them #RemoveTheCurse, as it were.

Here are just a few tweets poor Michael has been receiving today…
