Arsenal cleared to seal £25million transfer of Premier League winner

Arsenal have reportedly been cleared to seal the transfer of West Brom defender Jonny Evans as his club look to cash in on him and spend the funds on a new striker.

This is according to the Daily Mirror, who add that the Baggies already look to have secured Evans’ replacement in the form of Zamalek centre-back Ali Gabr.

Manchester City are also mentioned by the Mirror as admirers of Evans, who looks a bargain if he is allowed to move for the stated price of £25million.

The Northern Ireland international is a player with plenty of experience at the top level, having won the Premier League three times during his days at Manchester United.

Evans made close to 200 appearances for the Red Devils and has continued to impress since being surprisingly offloaded to West Brom back in 2015/16.

With Arsene Wenger arguably short of options at the back at the moment, Evans would make a fine addition to the squad in the middle of the season.

Arsenal fans may be hoping for some bigger names, but Evans’ know-how and leadership at the back could be of huge benefit to the club as they look to get back into the top four and then mount a more serious title challenge next year.

Having enjoyed so much success at United, Evans could help pass that knowledge and winning mentality on to the club’s young players if he does join.
