Breakthrough: Arsenal handed significant boost in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer

Arsenal look to have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to latest reports on the transfer saga.

The Gabon international has been repeatedly linked with the Gunners this January as the club urgently need a big-name signing up front to replace Alexis Sanchez after his move to Manchester United.

Aubameyang seems an ideal fit to fill that void in Arsenal’s attack, though the Daily Mirror recently reported that the deal could hinge on Dortmund landing Olivier Giroud as part of the deal.

While swap deals are rare and complicated to agree on, it looks as though Giroud is now keen on sealing the transfer to the Bundesliga to help things along.

The France international has not been a regular at the Emirates Stadium this season and the Daily Mail claim he wants the move to Dortmund and that all parties are in agreement in that regard, with just fees still to be finalised.

It’s been a busy January of ins and outs at Arsenal, with Sanchez’s move to United seeing Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to the Emirates Stadium, while Theo Walcott has also joined Everton.

If Giroud leaves and Aubameyang arrives in his place, that’s another big change of personnel to leave Arsene Wenger with a virtually new-look front line to choose from in the second half of the season.
