Real Madrid are reportedly back in the hunt for the transfers of either Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea or Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, according to Marca.
Both players are said to be the Spanish giants’ priority targets after they missed out on the signing of Athletic Bilbao shot-stopper Kepa, who just signed a new contract with the club.
As noted by Marca, De Gea has been a long-term target for Los Blancos, with BBC Sport even claiming back in 2015 that a move was close to completion before it fell through at the last minute.
It’s been clear for some time that Real could do with a new top-class ‘keeper, with the club yet to truly replace the legendary Iker Casillas in that position.
Keylor Navas has been number one since Casillas’ departure, but De Gea and Courtois are certainly a level above the Costa Rican in that crucial area.
Both seem ambitious targets, but Courtois will be in the final year of his Chelsea contract next season, while United have sold big names to Real in the recent past.
The likes of David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo are among those to have recently swapped Old Trafford for the Bernabeu at the peak of their powers.
