Manchester City attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has given his response to the club ultimately being snubbed by Alexis Sanchez as he instead made the transfer to Manchester United.
The Chile international was heading towards the end of his contract with Arsenal, and had long looked like being headed for a move to the Etihad Stadium.
ESPN still had City as favourites over United for Sanchez’s signature earlier this month, but this week he was announced as a new signing for the Red Devils.
De Bruyne isn’t too bothered, however, as he discussed the deal and said the club can either look at alternative targets or carry on as it is.
‘If it doesn’t go, it doesn’t matter, we will still do what we need to do, with or without him,’ De Bruyne is quoted in the Manchester Evening News.
‘And he chose United. There are a lot of good players. If they want to come, they want to come, and otherwise we will do it with our team.’
Pep Guardiola doesn’t exactly look in desperate need for new players after his side’s remarkable season so far, with the Sky Blues 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League and booking a date in next month’s Carabao Cup final with Arsenal.
While Sanchez would improve any side, City already have the likes of De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling to choose from in a star-studded attack.
