Arsenal hope to wrap up deal for Manchester United transfer target ‘very soon’, says Arsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told reporters today that he hopes a deal can be wrapped up for Mesut Ozil to sign a new contract with the club ‘very soon’, according to football.london.

The French tactician could do with more positive news after losing Alexis Sanchez to rivals Manchester United this January, and keeping Ozil would be a major boost.

The Germany international has been in fine form lately and is undoubtedly one of the club’s biggest names after his high-profile transfer from Real Madrid back in the summer of 2013.

While Ozil has had his critics during his time at Arsenal, he remains highly thought of as well as the Independent claim United are keen to snap him up alongside their move for Sanchez.

The 29-year-old is currently due to be a free agent in the summer, so Arsenal don’t have long to tie him down, though Wenger sounded a little more optimistic about that prospect today.

‘Our intention is to keep Ozil at the club, hopefully we will do that very soon,’ he said.

‘The vibes I get from his commitment, his focus, his desire – he behaves like someone who is ready to commit.

‘But after that negotiations are what they are. We are not close enough to tell you yes, he will do it.’

The Sun recently claimed Arsenal were close to handing new deals to both Ozil and fellow Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere.
