Deal close: Arsenal expected to complete £57million transfer by the end of the week

Arsenal are reportedly expected to reach an agreement over the transfer of Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by the end of the week, according to sources in Germany.

The Gabon international has been repeatedly linked with the Gunners in recent weeks as they search for a top class replacement for Alexis Sanchez after his departure to Manchester United.

Aubameyang seems the best option on the market at the moment and it seems things are moving in the right direction after lengthy talks.

According to Sport Bild, Arsenal are willing to double Aubameyang’s wages to push a move through as they seem prepared to pay whatever it takes to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s transfer to Arsenal could be edging closer

The German outlet tips an agreement to be reached on a transfer worth roughly £57million by the end of this week, in what could be a fine move by Arsenal.

This would eclipse the north Londoners’ club-record purchase of Alexandre Lacazette for £46.5million last summer (fee per BBC Sport), and represent a major statement of intent from the club.

Aubameyang has been one of Europe’s most lethal goalscorers during his time in the Bundesliga, netting 141 times in 212 appearances for Dortmund.

With the 28-year-old’s pace, skill and eye for goal it’s easy to see how he could be a success under Arsene Wenger.
