Arsenal launch smart swap deal bid to seal transfer of Premier League star

Arsenal have reportedly offered Mathieu Debuchy to West Brom as part of a swap deal to seal the transfer of defender Jonny Evans before the end of January.

According to the Daily Star, the Gunners have also put £10million in cash on the table for the Northern Ireland international, who could in theory be available for much less in the summer.

The report explains that Evans has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave the Hawthorns for just £3m if the club are relegated from the Premier League this season.

However, Arsenal clearly want to do business this winter and could certainly do with the addition of another proven, experienced centre-back.

The Star claim Arsenal hope that an offer of £10m plus Debuchy could do the trick, with the French right-back no longer a part of Arsene Wenger’s first-team.

However, Debuchy has pedigree at this level after impressing at previous club Newcastle and at the start of his Arsenal career before getting injured and losing his place to Hector Bellerin.

Arsenal fans may not see Evans as the big name they truly crave, but the 30-year-old would surely be an upgrade on the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers in defence.
