Agent still in Chelsea talks, CFC given 70% chance of sealing £44m double swoop

Chelsea are reportedly still in talks over signing Edin Dzeko, while they’ve been given a decent chance of wrapping up a double signing by The Times.

Antonio Conte’s side have fallen off the pace compared to last season, as they currently sit in third place in the Premier League table, 15 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Further, they crashed out in the semi-finals of the League Cup last week, while they now hold hope of lifting either the FA Cup or the Champions League to claim some silverware this season, which is far easier said than done.

In turn, in order to give his squad a boost with additional quality and depth, the Italian tactician will arguably have been hoping for more reinforcements other than Ross Barkley so far this month.

As per Sky Sport Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano in his tweet below, he claims that Roma striker Edin Dzeko’s agent is still in talks with the Blues over a move to Stamford Bridge, but they must accept his demands.

Given that he turns 32 in March, it’s easy to see why Chelsea may be hesitant to give in, but if they want to bring in additional firepower to help out the likes of Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi, then they’ll have to give in and offer what Dzeko is looking for it seems.

Despite the fact that Wednesday’s transfer deadline is fast approaching, The Times have given Chelsea a decent shot at still having enough time to pull off a double swoop for £44m Roma pair Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri, as they’ve got a 7/10 chance of it happening as per the paper.

It’s added by the report that the Blues have put in place a Monday deadline for an answer, as naturally they’ll need time to negotiate with alternatives if the deal doesn’t come off.

While there’s still uncertainty over whether or not the moves materialise, there shouldn’t be over whether Chelsea are looking at the right targets.

Dzeko finished last season as Capocannoniere in Serie A, topping the goalscoring charts with 29 league goals, while he had 39 in 51 appearances in all competitions.

Palmieri will add much-needed quality and depth on the left flank to give Marcos Alonso cover and even competition, and so Conte will surely be delighted if a deal gets done to bolster his options across the pitch along with Barkley.
