Arsenal and Manchester United look to have been handed a potential boost after recent transfer rumours linking them with Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.
According to Diario Gol, Icardi has let it slip to those close to him that Cristiano Ronaldo vetoed his potential transfer to Real Madrid.
The Portugal international’s place may have been under threat with the arrival of the Inter hot-shot, who has been one of Europe’s most prolific front-men this season.
Icardi could have been a useful upgrade on the likes of Ronaldo and Karim Benzema up front, with Madrid struggling to score at their usual phenomenal rate this season after massively falling behind in the La Liga title race.
Diario Gol also recently claimed Icardi was close to a £87million move to the Bernabeu only for manager Zinedine Zidane to also express his doubts over the deal.
Elsewhere, Gianluca Di Marzio linked the 24-year-old as a possible target for Arsenal, who could certainly do with big-name additions up front after losing Alexis Sanchez and after Alexandre Lacazette’s poor form at the Emirates Stadium this season.
Don Balon also linked Icardi with Manchester United, who despite signing Sanchez, could perhaps do with the Argentine as an upgrade on the somewhat inconsistent Romelu Lukaku.
