Barcelona get Lionel Messi approval to go after three key signings

Lionel Messi has reportedly given his blessing for Barcelona to move forward with plans to secure three important signings for the club.

The Catalan giants have done well this month having brought in Philippe Coutinho and Yerry Mina, with the pair addressing key weak areas in midfield and defence.

At 25 and 23 years of age respectively, they also represent long-term solutions too, and so overall, the Barcelona faithful will surely be content with the dealings in January.

However, according to Don Balon, as re-reported by The Express, they could be busy again in the summer with the La Liga leaders linked with moves for Antoine Griezmann, Arthur and a new left-back, all of which have been approved by Messi.

It seems strange to suggest that the Argentine icon has such an influence on the club’s transfer dealings. However, given the impact he has had at the Nou Camp for over a decade, it could be argued that he has the right to have a say as he’ll be keen to know that Barcelona are doing their bit to make sure they remain competitive in the latter stages of his career.

Adding a world-class talent in Griezmann seems like a sensible decision to offer further competition and cover up front alongside Luis Suarez, with Barca competing for multiple trophies and needing options.

Arthur also addresses an issue with the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and Paulinho all turning 30 later this year, and so a long-term rebuild in midfield could be on the cards.

It remains to be seen whether or not Barcelona land their intended targets, as put forward by Don Balon, but it seems Messi is on board with making it happen.
