There was widespread speculation on Wednesday that Arsenal star Mesut Ozil had signed a new contract, but there has yet to be an official announcement.
The 29-year-old has less than six months left on his current deal, with the Gunners seemingly facing the threat of losing him for nothing in the summer.
Having faced a similar situation with Alexis Sanchez which led to the swap deal with Manchester United for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, as noted by BBC Sport, the delay over Ozil’s agreement would naturally have been a growing concern.
Based on this Sky Sports report though, it would seem as though the German international has agreed to pen new terms with Arsenal, and it’s merely a matter of time before the Premier League giants officially announce it on their social media platforms.
In their defence, it’s been a busy day for the Gunners as they confirmed the signing of striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day, as per their official site, and so evidently they’ve had their hands full and are probably trying to space out the good news for their supporters.
However, Ozil has seemingly dropped the biggest hint yet that he’s inked a new contract with the club, as seen in his Instagram post below, with a caption reading: “Busy day signing things”.
If confirmed, it’s another massive boost for Arsenal as pairing Ozil’s creativity along with Mkhitaryan and the clinical finishing of Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal now have quite the attacking quartet at Arsene Wenger’s disposal.
The German playmaker has 27 goals and 52 assists in 136 league outings for Arsenal, and if the above is to be confirmed, he’ll be adding to those tallies beyond this season.
