Boost for Manchester United as Real Madrid ready to beat Liverpool to £88million transfer

It looks like good news for Manchester United and Chelsea as Real Madrid look prepared to pay up to seal the transfer of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The Independent recently linked the Slovenia international as a target for Liverpool, who could certainly do with replacing flop duo Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

Oblak would be a terrific signing for any top side after his fine form in La Liga, but that’s also seen him attract interest from Atletico’s inner-city rivals Real.

With Keylor Navas hardly the kind of big name Florentino Perez likes to have in his squad, Oblak would certainly be an upgrade in goal and Diario Gol claim the Madrid president is after him.

The report claims Perez is ready to pay Oblak’s £88million release clause, possibly making him a more realistic target than David de Gea or Thibaut Courtois, also mentioned in the piece.

While this is good news for Manchester United in terms of keeping their best player, the report adds that Chelsea may still face interest in Courtois from Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will be disappointed if this deal does come about as they urgently need a new ‘keeper of that calibre if they are to make the step up to being genuine Premier League and Champions League contenders.
