Manchester City given hope of completing £90million deadline day transfer

Manchester City may have been given some hope of securing the deadline day transfer of Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez as his club look for a replacement.

According to the Daily Mail, the Foxes could consider a move for Crystal Palace wide-man Andros Townsend for that key area as Mahrez has handed in a transfer request.

The Daily Mirror claim it would cost City as much as £90million to sign Mahrez, but in this market that seems just about the going rate for a top class attacking player.

The Algeria international has been one of the best players in the Premier League in recent seasons, winning PFA Player of the Year in 2015/16 after a starring role in Leicester’s shock Premier League title success.

It’s easy to imagine Mahrez could fit in perfectly at the Etihad Stadium and it seems Pep Guardiola is keen on a deal after the injury to Leroy Sane that will keep him out for six weeks, according to BBC Sport.

If Leicester are looking for a replacement then it suggests they must fear there’s a chance their star player will go before tonight’s transfer deadline, in what would be another major story in this incredible January.

It’s rare for so many big names to move in the middle of the season, but we’ve already seen Alexis Sanchez join Manchester United, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal and Philippe Coutinho leave Liverpool for Barcelona.
