Man Utd transfer news: Late swoop for key midfield solution, duo going nowhere plus new contract touted

Man Utd have been linked with a late move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, while there are key updates on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Daley Blind.

The Red Devils have an issue to address this summer, as Michael Carrick is set to hang his boots up, as noted by The Sun, while there are still doubts over Marouane Fellaini’s long-term future at Old Trafford given he has yet to sign a renewal with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season, as per The Telegraph.

In turn, although the pair aren’t regular starters for Jose Mourinho, that could leave the Portuguese tactician with a major hole in his squad, particularly if United are keen to compete on various fronts as they’ll need a deep squad and plenty of options to do so.

Man Utd linked with late swoop for Fred

According to The Sun, they may not wait until the summer, as they eye a move for Man City target Fred with Wednesday’s transfer deadline fast approaching.

While the 24-year-old would tick the boxes needed at Old Trafford, given there is no suggestion of a transfer fee, personal terms being agreed or a medical being scheduled, it’s questionable as to whether that will all happen so late on in the window to allow Man Utd to seal a move.

As a result, they could have to wait until the summer to address the problem, and they will have to with Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera left as the only real senior options.

Ibrahimovic, Blind set to stay beyond January at Man Utd

Meanwhile, it’s been claimed that two players who won’t be leaving this month are Daley Blind and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with rumours linking both with an exit.

“Daley Blind and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been at Carrington today for rehab. They will both still be Manchester United players by the end of this window, despite speculation,” as reported by Sky Sports reporter James Cooper.

Blind has featured heavily in the Champions League but he’s managed just three minutes of action in the Premier League since September. As a result, he’ll surely want more playing time.

Meanwhile, Ibrahimovic continues to recover from an injury setback, although he’s seemingly playing second fiddle to Romelu Lukaku this season and so the speculation is understandable.

Luke Shaw set to commit long-term future to Manchester United

Further, The Sun report that Luke Shaw will also be sticking around in Manchester, as he eyes signing a new long-term contract with the Red Devils.

It’s quite the turnaround for the England international, as he was blasted by Jose Mourinho last season for his attitude and approach, as per BT Sport. Having been given a run of games this season though, he’s seemingly proved himself to his boss that he can deliver and deserves his faith.

The left-back slot has been an issue for United with the likes of Ashley Young filling in in an unnatural position to him, but Shaw may well have established himself as the solution.
