Arsenal ready to seal £35million striker transfer to play alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal are reportedly still in the hunt for another striker transfer despite just bringing in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.

Diario Gol report that the Gunners are interested in signing Real Madrid front-man Karim Benzema as another addition up front, though they won’t pay more than £35million for him.

Benzema has not been at his best for Real Madrid this season, but has generally been one of Europe’s top forwards for much of the last decade.

Even if only as a squad player, the Frenchman could prove an astute purchase for Arsenal if they were to succeed in bringing him in on the cheap.

As well as new-boy Aubameyang, Arsenal also have Alexandre Lacazette and Danny Welbeck to choose from at centre-forward, though neither have looked particularly convincing this season.

Benzema could therefore be an upgrade to rotate with Aubameyang up front next season, and Diario Gol suggest it could be an easy deal to get done due to a lack of interest from any other clubs.

Still, that could also serve as something of a warning sign to Arsene Wenger, with Benzema perhaps heading into decline now at the age of 30 after a long and gruelling career at the top level.
