Real Madrid have reportedly begun efforts to seal a shock transfer raid on rivals Barcelona for French defender and rumoured Manchester United target Samuel Umtiti.
According to Don Balon, the Spanish giants have attempted to get in contact with representatives of the talented 24-year-old, but have had no response as of yet.
Umtiti has shone at the Nou Camp but there could be some cause for concern as he’s yet to sign a new contract with Barcelona amid growing speculation over his future.
This means he’s currently available for his release clause of just £53million, according to Don Balon, which looks a potential bargain in this current market where the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Aymeric Laporte have both recently moved for more.
It is little surprise to see Real Madrid in for a big-name centre-back for next season, with Los Blancos arguably lacking a truly world class partner at the back for club captain Sergio Ramos.
Don Balon have also previously linked Umtiti with Manchester United, another team in need of a boost at the back after some unconvincing recent form from the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo, while Eric Bailly has had an injury-hit time at Old Trafford.
Real may now try to beat United to Umtiti’s signature as Don Balon suggest they’re prepared to make this controversial raid on Barca, though their report also claims the player himself is happy where he is.
