Arsenal making regular inquiries over want-away £95m Manchester United, City & Chelsea transfer target

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly making regular inquiries over Riyad Mahrez as his side look to join the transfer battle for the unsettled Leicester City star.

The Algeria international has not been training with the Foxes recently, according to BBC Sport, following interest from Manchester City late on in the January transfer window.

The Independent reported that Leicester wanted City to pay as much as £95million for Mahrez, who had handed in a transfer request in a bid to force the move, though it never materialised.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are the latest club to show an interest, alongside Manchester United and Chelsea, with Wenger making regular checks to find out about the player’s attitude and how he trains.

Riyad Mahrez is now a transfer target for Arsenal as well as Manchester City, United and Chelsea

Mahrez, 26, has been one of the Premier League’s best attacking players in recent times, putting in some particularly dazzling displays as he helped Leicester win the Premier League in 2015/16 and was voted PFA Player of the Year.

There’s no doubt the tricky winger now looks ready to make the step up to a bigger club, and that he could be a great fit at Arsenal or any of the others mentioned.

The Gunners lost Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott as options out wide in January, so could do with another option there in the form of someone like Mahrez.

Still, they would surely want Leicester to lower their £95m asking price by the time the summer transfer window comes around, with the Foxes perhaps only asking for such a high fee because City came in for him in the middle of the season.
