Arsenal star makes laughable claim in contrast to Jose Mourinho’s analysis of Manchester United’s season

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has laughably talked up his side’s hopes of still challenging for the Premier League title this season, despite being a whopping 24 points off leaders Manchester City.

This also comes just a few days after Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho basically conceded the title, even though his side still have some faint hope due to being only 13 points off the league leaders in second place.

Arsenal would do well to make the top four on current form, with the Gunners currently in 6th place, five points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

Few would agree with Elneny’s assessment that they have any hope of getting back into the thick of the title race, or that they should even be thinking about something so fanciful when they have a genuine fight for a Champions League place on their hands.

It also goes to show to some extent the difference in mentality between Arsenal and United – while Mourinho recognises his side’s failures to challenge City this season, Elneny’s attitude suggests he doesn’t fully appreciate just how far behind his side have been.

Compare and contrast:

‘There’s nothing impossible in the English Premier League,’ Elneny told beIN Sports, as quoted by the Metro. ‘We still have our chance to compete for the title, we have to fight till the end, many surprises can occur at any point.’

‘City are doing so well. Not letting the others come close. With the number of points we have in normal conditions that would leave the fight open. It is open for second, third, fourth but practically closed for the first,’ Mourinho was quoted by Sky Sports a week ago.
