Club braced for Manchester United to come in for £50m star, replacement transfer already lined up

Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly both set to battle it out for the transfer of £50million-rated Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

It may also be that Leicester are not too optimistic about keeping Maguire as the Mirror add that they’re looking at Brighton’s Lewis Dunk as a potential replacement for their key man already.

The 24-year-old has shone in the Premier League this season, taking his game to a new level since moving from Hull City to the King Power Stadium in the summer.

Maguire has now become regarded as one of the most solid centre-backs in the country, and has also become an England international in the process.

While City just spent a vast sum of cash in Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte, it seems they still remain in the hunt for signings at the back for next season.

United, meanwhile, could certainly do with improving their options in that area due to the repeated injury problems of Eric Bailly as well as a lack of consistent and convincing form from players such as Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

Maguire looks as though he could be an upgrade for the Red Devils in that department, though £50m looks a lot to spend on a defender, not to mention one with relatively little top flight experience.

Maguire was relegated with Hull last season and had previously only played three matches at this level, spending much of his career so far in the lower leagues.

Still, at 24, he seems to be coming into his own now and should only improve alongside better players and a top class manager like Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola.
