Bad news for Barcelona, €100m move could be ruined by Euro rivals

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a summer swoop for Atletico Madrid ace Antoine Griezmann, but Paris Saint-Germain could now beat them to him, according to reports.

The French giants are well on the way to a successful campaign this year, and it follows the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last summer who have established a deadly partnership up front alongside Edinson Cavani.

Between them, they’ve scored 60 goals and provided 38 assists, which has led to a 12-point gap opening up at the top of the Ligue 1 table while they remain in the hunt for domestic cup success and the Champions League.

However, according to Don Balon, as re-reported by The Express, Neymar has told his former Barcelona teammates that PSG could be set to get even stronger as Griezmann could arrive in the French capital, with his release clause standing at €100m this summer.

From an Atleti perspective, provided PSG are willing to meet that release clause, they would surely prefer to sell abroad rather than hand Griezmann over to a direct rival in Barcelona.

The two clubs are currently in a title battle this season, and so losing their best player is a big enough blow in itself, but to see him join Barca would be an additional setback.

Further, having signed Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho in the last two transfer windows to go alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, it’s questionable as to whether Ernesto Valverde has the space in the squad to be able to rotate efficiently and introduce Griezmann into the equation too.

It remains to be seen where the French international is playing his football next season, but based on the report above, Neymar believes he could be welcoming a marquee signing to Paris.
