Agent delivers key update on €180m Liverpool target amid talk of Real Madrid exit

Liverpool have seemingly been dealt a transfer blow as the agent of reported target and Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio has dismissed exit talk.

The 22-year-old bagged 11 goals and six assists in 53 appearances last season, although he wasn’t always a regular fixture in the starting line-up under Zinedine Zidane.

While he may well be hoping that situation changes now that Julen Lopetegui has taken charge, he was the subject of transfer talk linking Liverpool with a staggering €180m bid for his services, as reported by AS.

The Reds boast one of the most potent attacks in Europe already with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane leading their charge last season, but perhaps adding a creative playmaker to adopt a more central role could add another dangerous dynamic to their line-up.

In turn, Asensio could fit the bill, but his agent, Horacio Gaggioli, has seemingly put a stop to that as he has insisted that his client will remain at the Bernabeu next season.

“He does not move, he stays in Madrid, he’s growing a lot and I think next season will be very important for him,” he is quoted as saying by Marca.

With Lopetegui’s previous experience of working with Asensio both at youth level and with the senior Spain squad prior to his departure on the eve of the World Cup, perhaps the new Real Madrid boss intends on giving Asensio a prominent role as of next season which has led to his agent’s comments.

The playmaker undoubtedly has the quality and talent to shine for Los Blancos, but such is the fierce competition for places, he’ll have to prove himself consistently and continue to develop his game in order to avoid growing frustrated in the Spanish capital.
