Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly made it clear to Paul Pogba that he wants him to leave the club in this summer’s transfer window.

And coming in as his replacement could be Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos in a deal worth potentially as much as £70million, according to Diario Gol.

The Germany international has been one of the best players in the world in his position in recent years, and seems a more logical fit in Mourinho’s side than Pogba has been.

The Frenchman has never quite looked at home at United since joining the club in 2016, and various recent reports have suggested he could leave this summer.

Just today, a report from Don Balon has linked the 25-year-old with Barcelona, which seems a more obvious fit for him in terms of playing style and the kind of role he could fill in the side.

For now, Pogba will no doubt be focused on the World Cup final with France this week, but Diario Gol claim he is not in Mourinho’s plans and has been told as much.

Kroos would be a fine signing for United to give them more balance in midfield, with the 2014 World Cup winner a more disciplined and deep-lying ball player than Pogba, who could slot in nicely alongside Nemanja Matic and Fred in the middle of the park.

With club legend Michael Carrick retiring in the summer and the likes of Pogba and Ander Herrera not really impressing, Kroos coming in would surely be smart business by the Red Devils.
