Manchester United have reportedly been offered the transfer of Gareth Bale from Real Madrid – as long as Romelu Lukaku moves in the opposite direction.

The Red Devils have long been linked with the Welshman, who’d be a superb signing to improve their attacking options out wide, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford struggling to impress last season.

However, if United want Bale they’d have to offer Lukaku to Real Madrid to push the deal through, according to Spanish publication Don Balon.

It remains to be seen if United would go for such an exchange, with Lukaku only joining from Everton last summer and generally performing well in his first season at Old Trafford.

The Belgian followed that up with a superb World Cup with his national team, who finished third overall.

United would do well to hold on to Lukaku and perhaps strengthen their wide areas with other players, with alternatives to Bale surely out there.

In fact, Croatia duo Ivan Perisic and Ante Rebic are two wingers being linked with the club today by the Sun, and they’d likely be cheaper than the 29-year-old, who has been valued at as much as £100m by a recent report from the Daily Mirror.
