Third big name at Chelsea ready to follow Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois by sealing transfer away

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is reportedly the latest big name at the club to consider sealing a transfer away as Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois head for the exit.

The England international has been at Stamford Bridge for some time now, but became less of a key player last season and faces falling even further down the pecking order this term.

One imagines new manager Maurizio Sarri could be keen to make wholesale changes to this Chelsea side that flopped so badly last season with a slump to fifth place in the Premier League, and Cahill seems concerned about his situation.

According to the Evening Standard, the 32-year-old is wary of CFC looking like signing Daniele Rugani from Juventus, leading him to consider his future with the Blues.

The report also suggests Cahill could find playing time harder to come by under Sarri as the Italian tactician favours playing two centre-backs, unlike his predecessor Antonio Conte, who mainly operated with three.

With Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen already at the club as options in central defence, Cahill could find it tricky enough to start regularly in such a system, never mind if Rugani joins too.

As noted by the Standard, Hazard and Courtois have also indicated they could leave west London this summer, though Cahill’s departure would not be as big a blow.
