Liverpool are reportedly closing in on beating Chelsea to the Alisson transfer after tabling an improved world-record bid of £66.8million to Roma.

According to the Guardian, the Reds are now finalising details with the Italian giants and planning the player’s medical ahead of what will be a world record move for a goalkeeper in a stunning piece of summer transfer business.

Having shone in Serie A in the last few seasons, Alisson has quickly established himself as one of the finest ‘keepers in the world and should be a huge signing for Liverpool.

LFC reached the Champions League final last season after some superb attacking displays in Europe from the likes of Mohamed Salah, but they long looked suspect at the back.

This came back to haunt them as goalkeeper Loris Karius made two huge errors in the final defeat to Real Madrid, bizarrely allowing Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale to score decisive goals and decide the game.

Alisson could be the kind of signing to take Jurgen Klopp’s side to the next level as they look to build on last season’s promising campaign and go one further by winning major trophies like the Premier League or Champions League.

It was only earlier today claimed by the Daily Mirror that Chelsea could seek to gazump Liverpool with a bigger bid for Alisson, but it looks likely now that he’s on his way to Anfield if the Guardian’s claims are anything to go by.

Some Liverpool fans got very excited about Alisson transfer updates yesterday and many even talked up their chances of winning the treble next season.

We wouldn’t go quite that far, but this does look a major statement of intent from a club very much on the up.
