Chelsea in contention to seal transfer of Champions League winner to replace Thibaut Courtois

Chelsea are reportedly in contention as one of three clubs who could seal the transfer of Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas this summer.

The Costa Rica international could be an ideal replacement for Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge as he looks set to head in the other direction by moving to Madrid.

Don Balon report that Courtois’ move to the Bernabeu is practically done, and that leaves Navas considering his future, with Chelsea an option alongside AC Milan and Roma, where he would presumably be the club’s replacement for Alisson after his switch to Liverpool.

While Navas wouldn’t be every Chelsea fan’s pick to replace a big name like Courtois, he has arguably been an underrated member of this incredibly successful Real side of recent years.

The 31-year-old has won the Champions League three times with Los Blancos and has done well to survive what feels like years of speculation that the Spanish giants could replace him with a bigger name.

Manchester United’s David de Gea notably came close to joining in 2015 before a complication with the paperwork meant everything fell through, according to BBC Sport.

Links with the Spanish shot-stopper have not stopped a great deal since then, though it now looks like it’ll be Courtois coming in as the club’s new number one instead.

Don Balon state, however, that Navas doesn’t seem keen on a move to the Premier League for the moment, which could harm CFC’s chances of landing an ideal replacement for their goalkeeper.
