Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Rob Green and have revealed that he has signed a one-year contract with the club.

The 38-year-old possesses a wealth of experience following spells at Norwich City, West Ham United and QPR, and although he is in the latter stages of his career, he could provide an important back-up option for Maurizio Sarri this coming season.

Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero will likely compete for the No.1 spot in the Italian tactician’s line-up, but without the required depth in case of injuries and suspensions, the Blues have now moved for Green to fill that void while confirming he has penned a one-year deal, as per the club’s official site.

As seen in his tweet below, it’s a huge moment for the stalwart to join Chelsea regardless of whether or not he will secure regular playing time, as it’s a chance to end his career with silverware given the Premier League giants will hope to get back on track this coming season and compete for major honours.

As per BBC Sport, Sarri has already brought in former Napoli ace Jorginho this summer which will be a crucial addition to help him implement his style of play at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Green acquisition is arguably a little more on the side of house-keeping if anything to ensure that Chelsea are well stocked in the goalkeeper department for the new season as the veteran will look to push on and attempt to force his way up the pecking order.
