Man Utd eye swap deal with €65m-rated star heading out of Old Trafford

Man Utd have been linked with making a swap deal with Bayern Munich involving Anthony Martial and Jerome Boateng, as per reports in Germany.

As noted by The Telegraph, tensions have grown between Martial and boss Jose Mourinho over the course of the pre-season schedule which are seemingly leading to question marks over his future at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old struggled to establish himself as a permanent figure in Mourinho’s starting line-up last season, although he did make 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists.

However, from his initial impact after joining from Monaco under Louis van Gaal to his role at Man Utd currently, it seems as though it has been heading in the wrong direction as far as Martial is concerned as he also missed out on a place in the France squad for the World Cup this summer.

According to Bild, it could lead to an exit as the French international is being paired with a move to Bayern in a swap deal for Boateng, with the former said to be valued at €65m, €10m more than Boateng which will seemingly have to be made up with a fee included.

Nevertheless, given Mourinho already has Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo at his disposal to play in central defence, selling an attacking starlet with so much more room for improvement to bolster an area of the squad that arguably doesn’t need it, seems like a very questionable decision from the Portuguese tactician.

Should the touted move go through, it remains to be seen whether or not it turns out to be a successful one, although Boateng, 29, would bring plenty of experience, solidity and the qualities to build from the back to enhance what Mourinho has in his defence already.

Giving up Martial though could prove to be a very unpopular decision, as although the Frenchman has his flaws, selling him now before he’s reached his full potential could come back to haunt the Red Devils.
