Chelsea ready late, late move to pip Liverpool to bargain transfer to solve problem position

Chelsea are reportedly ready to try their luck with a late, late transfer swoop for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey for around £35million on the eve of deadline day.

One of the finest players in the Premier League, Ramsey is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and may therefore perhaps leave for a bargain fee.

According to the Daily Express, Chelsea are preparing to pip Liverpool to the Wales international’s signature just before next week’s deadline after Maurizio Sarri failed to land a number of other midfield targets.

This follows Chelsea being linked by Calciomercato with Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic, while another Calciomercato report also linked them with Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in an expensive swap deal involving Charly Musonda.

Ramsey would be a fine and cheap alternative for the Blues, however, and seems to fit the bill in terms of what new manager Sarri hinted he was after in the final few days before the transfer window slams shut next week.

‘I think we need something, but maybe only a player,’ Sarri was recently quoted in the Metro.

Aaron Ramsey to leave Arsenal for late transfer to Chelsea

‘We have very good midfielders, but maybe a midfielder with different characteristics (would make a good signing).’

Ramsey, 27, is more of a goal threat than most of Chelsea’s midfield options at the moment, and would surely be an upgrade on the likes of Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko, both of whom have spectacularly flopped since arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer.

It would make sense if neither of the pair were in CFC’s plans for the new season, and raiding rivals Arsenal for Ramsey could be a crucial move in deciding the respective top four fortunes of the two London giants in the campaign ahead.

Despite the Express briefly mentioning Liverpool interest in Ramsey, it seems unlikely that the Reds urgently need another player in that part of the pitch after bringing in both Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer to add to big names like Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum in the middle.
