World Cup star wants move to Manchester United before transfer deadline

Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire is hoping to move to Manchester United before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

Maguire has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford since his return from the World Cup and Sky Sports understand the defender would like to make the move before tomorrow’s deadline.

25-year-old Maguire was one of England’s World Cup heroes this summer as the country reached the semi-finals before bowing out to Croatia.

Maguire only joined the Foxes last summer from Hull, the towering centre-back went on to start every Premier League game last season. United fans will remember Maguire scoring a dramatic 94th minute equaliser when the sides met in December last year.

Manchester United’s hopes of signing the defender have been boosted by the fact that Sky Sports earlier reported that Leicester were nearing deals to bring defenders Caglar Soyuncu and Filip Benkovic to the King Power Stadium.

With Leicester looking to bolster their defence with these additions, Maguire may be free to move to the Red Devils before tomorrow’s deadline, though Sky Sports state that the 2015/16 Premier League champions insist he’s not for sale and want to offer him a new contract.

If he could pull this move off, Jose Mourinho would definitely go a long way to winning back the fans’ trust after a uninspiring summer transfer window up to now.

United clearly need more in defence after unconvincing campaigns from the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones last term, while Eric Bailly has shone but struggled to remain fit.

Maguire seems a necessary addition to help close that 19-point gap between United and Manchester City in a rather one-sided title race last season.
