Mateo Kovacic will reportedly have a medical today ahead of completing a loan move to Chelsea with the option of a permanent transfer next summer.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, who report of the Croatia international looking Stamford Bridge-bound in what looks a smart piece of business by the Blues.

It is not clear at the moment how much Chelsea would have to pay Real Madrid to keep Kovacic permanently, but they at least bolster their midfield options with a proven performer for one season before deciding whether or not they want to pay up for him beyond that.
Having already signed Jorginho this summer, Maurizio Sarri has clearly seen the need to improve on Chelsea’s current midfield options.

Last summer’s signings of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater have not worked out, and the Standard add that these two could be heading out of the club.
The report links Bakayoko with a move to AC Milan, and claims Chelsea are trying to offload Drinkwater too.
Finally, Chelsea have also had Everton enquire about taking defender Kurt Zouma on loan ahead of what looks a busy end to the summer at the Bridge.
