Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has spoken out about the potential transfer of Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid as the deal looks to be edging closer.

The Telegraph reported earlier that the Belgian shot-stopper was confident that his going AWOL from Chelsea training would get him his desired switch to the Bernabeu before Thursday’s deadline.

It has since then been claimed by Sky Sports News in the video below that Courtois was due for a medical in Madrid tomorrow, with Kepa Arrizabalaga looking like the ‘keeper to replace him at Stamford Bridge.

Nothing is official yet, but it seems Giroud is expecting the 26-year-old to leave the club and admits it would be ‘sad’ to see such a top player go.

‘If he leaves it’s going to be sad for us because he is a great keeper,’ Giroud is quoted in the Metro.

Courtois has been Chelsea’s no.1 since the 2014/15 season, and has since then shown himself to be one of the finest in the world in his position.

It is little surprise then that Real seem to have swooped for him, with Los Blancos known for their habit of trying to recruit the very biggest names in the world in every position on the pitch.
