Fellow Belgian agrees deal to follow Thibaut Courtois out of Chelsea with La Liga transfer

Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is reportedly set to seal a loan transfer for the season to La Liga outfit Valencia, according to reports emerging this afternoon.

The Blues just lost star player Thibaut Courtois, another Belgian, to another Spanish club Real Madrid this week, and it looks like Batshuayi is next.

This is according to Spanish journalist Hector Gomez, who has tweeted to suggest it’s all been concluded for Batshuayi to move to the Mestalla.

Batshuayi has struggled for first-team football in his time at Stamford Bridge, spending last season on loan with Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the campaign.

Prolific during his time at former club Marseille, the 24-year-old also impressed in the Bundesliga before injury prematurely ended his time with Dortmund.

It now looks like he’ll have another chance to revive his career with Valencia, though Chelsea fans may not be best pleased with losing a promising striker given their other options up front.

Alvaro Morata struggled last season after his big-money move from Real Madrid, while Olivier Giroud seems a reasonable backup, but not really one to challenge Morata for that starting spot.

Still, it seems clear the player could do with playing more and that’s perhaps unlikely to happen at Chelsea. It’s just a shame from Maurizio Sarri’s perspective that he can’t now replace the front-man due to the transfer window shutting yesterday for English clubs.

Batshuayi himself seems to be hinting at the loan too, tweeting an emoji of a bat, which makes up part of the Valencia crest…
