Paul Pogba still wants Barcelona transfer but Jose Mourinho makes huge gesture to keep him at Man Utd

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly made Paul Pogba the new club captain in a bid to keep him from sealing a transfer to Barcelona.

The France international has been linked with Barca in recent times and the Daily Mail claim he still wants a move despite the transfer window closing for Premier League clubs yesterday.

The report adds that Pogba, who has been given the captain’s armband for tonight’s Premier League game against Leicester City, could keep it even after current official skipper Antonio Valencia returns to action.

Pogba has not exactly hit top form at Old Trafford so far, despite arriving with plenty of expectation when he was re-signed from Juventus in the summer of 2016.

Still, it seems Mourinho is eager not to lose the 25-year-old to Barcelona as the Mail report the Portuguese hopes offering him the chance to be official captain can persuade him to snub interest from the Nou Camp.

It’ll be intriguing to see how this one plays out, with United surely desperately needing to keep a talent like Pogba happy, even if things haven’t quite worked out for him so far.

The former Juve man showed his potential with the French national side this summer as he played a key role in them lifting the World Cup.

If Mourinho can motivate him to that kind of level by making him United captain, he’ll be a valuable asset to this squad for years to come.
