Barcelona miss out on €37m starlet as PSG beat them to talented youngster

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly secured a deal to sign Schalke starlet Thilo Kehrer, despite the youngster also being linked with Barcelona.

The 21-year-old has made 44 appearances for Schalke after making his breakthrough in the 2016/17 season, while he has also represented Germany from U16 through to U21 level.

That would suggest that many believe he has a bright future ahead of him, and now he will continue that process of development and improvement under compatriot Thomas Tuchel at PSG, with Sky Sports reporting that they’ve secured a €37m deal to sign him.

As noted by Marca, the talented youngster had also been paired with a move to the Nou Camp to join Barcelona, but that will no longer be an option it seems as he’ll embark on the next chapter of his career in Ligue 1.

Given that they signed Clement Lenglet from Sevilla earlier this summer, coupled with the other options that coach Ernesto Valverde has at his disposal across the backline, it’s questionable as to whether Barcelona really were still in the hunt for another centre-back like Kehrer.

Nevertheless, having been touted as a possible destination for the talented ace, they may well be slightly disappointed to see him move elsewhere and to now miss out on the opportunity to see him play for the club in the future.

Kehrer will have stiff competition for places in Paris too though, with Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe all vying for a place in the starting line-up as Tuchel looks to not only extend their domestic dominance but also end their long wait for success in Europe too.
