Chelsea made shock transfer approach for Manchester United contract rebel

Chelsea were reportedly one of the clubs to have made ‘overtures’ into sealing the surprise transfer of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

This revelation comes as it’s claimed De Gea is no closer to signing a new contract at Old Trafford due to his high wage demands, according to the Daily Record.

The Spain international is a hugely important player for United and they won’t want to lose him, but the Record suggests Paris Saint-Germain could still be in for him in the near future.

This is because PSG just signed veteran ‘keeper Gianluigi Buffon on a one-year deal, while De Gea could in theory be out of contract in less than a year’s time.

The Record state, however, that United have the option to automatically trigger a one-year extension to the shot-stopper’s current deal, but this development must still be a big concern.

Luckily, he probably won’t be on the move to one of the club’s biggest Premier League rivals, with Chelsea now signing Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal after Thibaut Courtois joined Real Madrid – which surely also ends the Spanish giants’ interest in De Gea.

United fans will just hope they can keep hold of the 27-year-old who has been their best player for much of the last five years or so.
