What Jose Mourinho said about Manchester United fans ahead of Tottenham showdown

It’s been a tumultuous week for Man Utd, especially after their defeat to Brighton, and so Jose Mourinho will be desperate to see a reaction from his players against Tottenham.

The season began well for the Red Devils as they secured a victory over Leicester City in their opener, but that good work was seemingly undone last weekend.

In turn, it makes the clash with Spurs an important one to get back on track and boost morale, with Mourinho and his players facing plenty of criticism from pundits and supporters alike over the past seven days.

However, the Portuguese tactician has seemingly tried to galvanise the club and the fans by praising them for their support over the first two games, even during the defeat at Brighton.

Given he hasn’t been shy in the past to criticise his own players and take digs at the supporters, as per The Daily Mail, perhaps this is an indirect acknowledgement that he’s under pressure and wants as much support as possible.

“The supporters were fantastic in both matches. For the team, which is the only thing that matters,” he is quoted as saying by The Daily Star. “I am really happy with the supporters and how they support the team. To be supportive of the team against Brighton, where we didn’t play well and lost the match, it gives you a fantastic feeling.

“I hope that feeling, that the players also feel it and that the players they are ready to give them everything they have.”

United will undoubtedly get their full backing against Tottenham, but it’s up to the players to give them a reason to cheer and get behind them with their display against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

It won’t be easy given that they’ve started the new campaign well with two wins in two games and so perhaps the start to the game will be pivotal, but Man Utd and Mourinho will surely be up for this one and will be desperate to claim all three points.
