According to the Independent, players are now speculating about Mourinho’s future if he loses against Burnley this weekend or another game in the near future.
The report also suggests that, while Ed Woodward is keen to give the Portuguese tactician time to turn things around, other members of the board may be less patient with the former Chelsea manager.
CaughtOffside have been told by sources close to Zinedine Zidane that he has already informed United players Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, two fellow Frenchmen, of his confidence of being offered the chance to replace Mourinho imminently.
It remains to be seen if this contact from Zidane has sparked further gossiping by United players, but it does seem that the manager’s future being in doubt is a fairly open topic inside the club at the moment.
Question marks hung over Mourinho when he first took the United job after a disastrous end to his time at Chelsea, and he hasn’t exactly proven anyone wrong in Manchester yet as he’s struggled to lift this team back to the great heights of the past.
