AC Milan are reportedly keen on Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini, and they have been handed a boost as he’s said to be up for sale.
The Rossoneri are light in attack as coach Gennaro Gattuso has just Gonzalo Higuain and Patrick Cutrone as his two options up top.
In order to maintain their push for a top-four finish in Serie A this season as well as compete for the Coppa Italia, the Italian tactician will arguably need more firepower and that is seemingly emerging as a priority this month.
According to Sky Sports, Milan have set their sights on Gabbiadini, and it’s added that Southampton will now allow him to leave as he has continued to struggle to establish himself at the club after making an impressive start following his arrival from Napoli.
His goalscoring record in England reads 12 goals in 55 appearances for the Saints, and so that could raise question marks over whether or not he really is the solution to Milan’s troubles given they’ve only scored 26 goals in 19 league games so far this season, the lowest tally of the top eight sides.
Time will tell if a move materialises, but perhaps with Gabbiadini’s ability to link play and create for others, it might be enough to convince Milan to take a gamble on him this month to help fire them to their objectives in the second half of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato have raised question marks over how long Diego Laxalt will be at the club, as Newcastle United are said to be interested in signing the Uruguayan international this month and an offer is said to be imminent.
It’s added that he’s happy at Milan despite being pushed into a bit-part role, but it could be seen as an opportunity for the Italian giants to sell and invest elsewhere to strengthen the squad as a whole given Ricardo Rodriguez remains the first-choice left-back under Gattuso.
It would be a huge disappointment for him though, given he only joined Milan this past summer and appeared set to play a key role in adding depth on the left flank.
