Manchester United star addresses transfer speculation on Instagram

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has taken to social media to dismiss reports that he could leave Old Trafford this year.

The Belgian has endured a difficult 2018-19 campaign, only managing to score eight Premier League goals in 20 appearances so far.

Since the arrival of caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the 25-year-old has lost his place in the starting line-up to Marcus Rashford, as United have embarked on a seven-match winning streak.

Don Balon reported last week that Lukaku is growing more and more frustrated by his lack of playing time and with Real Madrid interested in securing his services over the summer, he might be tempted by a lucrative switch.

However, according to Metro Sport, the United hitman has now seemingly addressed the transfer speculation on Instagram, posting a blank image with the caption: “When the hate don’t work they start telling lies.”

Lukaku is clearly still hopeful of regaining his spot in Solskjaer’s current line-up, with a crucial run of fixtures on the horizon for the Red Devils over the next month.

United are now only three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League and given their current trajectory, few would bet against them comfortably earning a spot in next years Champions League.

Solskjaer’s men also have a huge European Cup showdown against Paris Saint Germain to look forward to on February 12, as they negotiate the first knockout phase of this year’s competition.

The FA Cup is also still up for grabs, with a trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in the fourth round on the cards this Friday and Lukaku could be in line to start.

If he does, an impressive performance could help him usurp Rashford in the current set up at the Theatre of Dreams, or Solskjaer might even consider playing both men up front in the foreseeable future.

Either way, Lukaku’s United exit still seems unlikely at this stage, with much still to prove to not only the club’s supporters but also himself, as he seeks to prove himself at the highest level.
