Chelsea full-back Victor Moses is reluctant to seal a switch to Fenerbahce until he is offered an ‘assurance fee’, in case the club are relegated.
The Nigerian star is on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge after falling out of favour with head coach Maurizio Sarri in recent months.
The 28-year-old has only managed to rack up five appearances across all competitions this season, after being deemed surplus to requirements in Sarri’s 4-3-3 system which does not require wing-backs.
According to the Guardian, Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Chelsea for Moses’ transfer during the current window, but his extraordinary demands are holding the deal up.
The Guardian reports that Moses wants to be given a £2.86m ‘assurance fee’ as part of his contract, as the Istanbul based outfit face being relegated from the Turkish top flight.
If they manage to avoid the drop, Moses has also asked for a £200,000 bonus, which means that either way, Fenerbahce will end up having to pay extra fees if they want to land the Chelsea star’s signature – as per the Guardian.
Fenerbahce are currently 17th in the Turkish Super Lig, with only Rizespor below them in the table after an astounding fall from grace over the last few months.
A player with the pedigree of Moses will surely help the team in their fight to stay in the division, but it is unlikely that his influence alone will be enough.
It is, therefore, understandable that the Nigeria international wants assurances in return for taking the risk and moving to the club, but he might also have alienated his potential suitors with the hefty amount he has asked for.
With just under two weeks left until the market closes until May, Moses could yet end up prolonging his Stamford Bridge stay, with several more months on the sidelines now a distinct possibility unless this deal can be pushed over the line.
