FIFA pleased with goal-line technology

carroll_gaffeIt won’t make anyone at Chelsea or Tottenham feel any better, but FIFA are extremely happy with the ‘intelligent ball’ technology tested at the World under-17 championships. The modified ball contains a microchip less than half an inch (15 millimetres) in size that sends a signal to the referee’s watch in under one second that causes it to vibrate.

While promising, the technology is not flawless and FIFA will continue the trial period at the World Club Championship in Japan in December.

“I’m delighted that this new goal-line technology will prevent horrible blunders from inept goalkeepers such as myself from ruining the European chances of other clubs” said Lead Developer and part-time goalkeeper Roy Carroll (pictured).
