This level of hatred is almost worthy of praise, if it wasn’t so damned stupid. Athens side Panionios were so sickened by the prospect of allowing arch rivals AEK Athens to use their ground for their forthcoming Europa League match against Dundee United that their fans decided to trash their own stadium. Goalposts were brought down and hundreds of holes were dug into the turf. Remember this is their OWN stadium they have destroyed. To be fair, the plan worked and AEK have moved the match again. The problem is however that Panionios now has a f**ked up ground, maybe that means they will have to play THEIR home games at AEK Athens…probably not. Hat tip to The Spoiler.
This footage is quite incredible. AEK Athens had just lost a pre-season game, yes that’s right a meaningless pre-season game and as a result a near riot ensued and the 61 year old was the target for a rogue element among the crowd who punched him repeatedly and then kicked him as he lay on the floor. Now this is even more mindless when you consider that Dusan Bajevic is in his third spell as the manager of the Greek side and had in his previous two spells won the domestic title four times as well as won it twice as a player for the club. His previous spell at arch rivals Olympiakos could have something to do with the trouble but that being said this is fairly sickening an act to behold.
Given the paucity of options we have in attack, where Voronin in somehow still given a run out and we have little or no cover for the mesmeric Fernando Torres, I found it odd that we loaned out Krisztián Németh to AEK Athens and now seeing him produce this bit of magic (see below) makes me believe he would be better off back at Anfield. Side note, look at the awful quality of the pitch!
