Newcastle manager Alan Shearer says he is “totally convinced” that his side will avoid relegation.
The Magpies, who travel to Aston Villa for their final game on Sunday, are a point adrift of safety and are relying on other results to go their way.
“I am totally convinced we will get out of it, yes, and more importantly, so are my players,” said Shearer.
“We know what’s at stake. I’m confident we can go there and give our great fans something to shout about, I really am.” (BBC Sport)
Well that’s that sorted then, not really worth bothering with the game, Newcastle are apparently safe from relegation…..wrong!
So firstly Shearer is convinced that his Newcastle side will manage to do the business at Villa Park even though his Toon Army side has only won two games on the their travels this season and regardless of Martin O’Neill’s recent poor form the midlands club have only lost three times at home this season and have managed to avoid defeat against Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal in the process.
Perhaps he knows something we don’t about the Man United line-up ahead of their match against Hull City, a match that if Phil Brown’s side wins means that whatever Shearer’s team does they are as good as down unless Sunderland also fail to get anything at home to Chelsea.
You have to admire his optimistic nature and i have a sneaking suspicion that the barcodes will indeed avoid the drop and then i bet anyone on planet earth that he takes the job on full time!
