The Guardian reports that Tottenham’s gaffer Juande Ramos wants to try his hand at some Premier League alchemy. He’s looking to swap half a packet of Prawn Cocktail crisps (Darren Bent), some used bog roll (Paul Robinson) and a handful of change for Blackburn’s gobby golden boy (David Bentley). While Tottenham continue to flounder in 11th place in the Premier League, Everton currently occupy 4th position, some fifteen points ahead of Juande Ramos’ men. Therefore, while the best Spurs can hope for is a UEFA Cup spot next season, the Daily Mail report that a member of their squad is hoping to help the Toffees achieve bigger and better things during his loan spell at Goodison Park. Step forward Anthony Gardner, who has been recruited by David Moyes primarily as cover, but is hoping to see some first-team action during his time on Merseyside.
“I’m just looking forward to working with the boys and getting out on the football field and showing what I can do. Hopefully I can contribute to what Everton are trying to do this year,” Gardner told Everton’s official website.
“I’m cup-tied from the earlier round with Spurs. But hopefully I can get some minutes on the pitch and show the fans what I can do because Everton are in a very strong position at the minute.
“They’re trying to push on to the Champions League so if I can help that in any way with my abilities, then I will be more than happy.
“I think I’m about 10 days away from playing. There’s just something that I need to clear up and then I will see if I can get myself into contention and hopefully if I get a chance to play I can show fans what I can do.”
The defender has featured in just six games for Tottenham this season and it’s entirely possible that he’ll be surplus to requirements at Everton, especially considering how strong Moyes’ men currently are at the back.
