Only The Sun could bring us an ex-Arsenal legend sticking his oar in over the Berbatov to Man Utd saga, claiming that the Spurs striker could be the new Cantona if he joined the Old Trafford outfit. [Read the rest of this entry »]

The Telegraph reports that Arsenal’s Togo international is set to politely ask the Arsenal suits if they would mind awfully if he left and went to Ac Milan
. “Further discussions are planned in the next few weeks but reports in Italy suggest that Adebayor will use the next meeting to tell the club, via his French agent Stephane Courbis, that he would like to move to the San Siro. (Telegraph)“
With the player looking like he’d fancy swapping the Emirates for the San Siro, and with the Rossoneri apparently ready to offer £32 million for his services should Arsene just cash in and go hunting for a replacement (who he’ll no doubt unearth for 50 pence)?
Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is at a crossroads. The German international is 38 but has every chance of featuring in Euro 2008, though much depends on whether he moves from the Emirates this month.
Lehmann, Germany’s first choice at the 2006 World Cup, has been out of Arsenal’s starting XI since early in the season and desperately needs to make a decision on his future at the Emirates should he still harbour ambition of appearing in yet another major international competition.
In an interview to the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, as picked up by ESPN Soccernet, Lehmann is contemplating taking more time to decide about his future. He said:
”Since this is a difficult decision which affects my family above all, I need to consider and discuss a few things. I cannot name a definite date (for my decision), but I think it will be within a few days.”
The decision in question is whether to move to Borussia Dortmund in the the German Bundesliga. Dortmund lie in mid-table and have already expressed a keen desire to sign the player, even on a loan deal. However, it is widely expected that should Lehmann indeed move back to his homeland, it would be on a permanent transfer rather than on a six-month loan.
Of course switching over to Dortmund would imply the subtraction of the attraction of playing in the UEFA Champions League even from the bench. It would also denote a considerable cut in his wage but would mean that Lehmann gets to play regularly and that will certainly enhance his chances of playing in Austria and Switzerland this summer. At the moment for a player of Lehmann’s stature, playing in the European championships ought to be a firm motive.
The Sun’s very own Ian McGarry is today crowing over the fact that Ashley Cole was yesterday thrown into a rage of unbridled disgust comparable to the incident when he nearly crashed his car at the derisory wages Arsenal were offering him…
Cole was given the capitain’s armband against QPR for the first time, but was summarily stripped of the honor after just an hour, which apparently left Cole feeling outraged and embarrassed as manager Grant then foisted the armband on Didier Drogba. Grant said of this decision:
“Drogba is a leader. Many players who are leaders here did not play against Qpr, so we gave it to Ashley.
“I think he is a good example for all the others, always giving 100 per cent, always happy.
“I like Ashley, so he deserved to be captain. But there are other options for leaders in the team.”
And somewhat predictably the Sun thinks this means that Ashley Cole could be looking for a move sometime soon.
