Alfonso Alves might have brought with him loads of quality and a formidable goal scoring track record but the Brazilian international striker has also imported a whole heap of controversies and legal battles. Sky Sports reports that Dutch club AZ Alkmaar is all set to go to football’s world governing body FIFA in order to try and force a ban on Alves for the rest of the season.
Middlesbrough signed the striker from Heerenven on Thursday but AZ claim that they had a pre-contract agreement with the player. Alves has of course denied ever making any such contract but that doesn’t allay the feeling of betrayal and anger that AZ chairman Dirk Scheringa is going through at the moment.
Scheringa says:
He really has a chance of getting banned from playing for the rest of the season. We have a water-tight contract with him.
